Akamas Project – Experimental Ceramics Workshop

The special geology of Akamas is the cause for the meeting of six artists of ceramic art from Cyprus, Greece and Malta in Androlikou village, in order to create clays and coatings and to make pottery using the traditional wheel as well as figurines and small sculptures inspired by ancient pottery making. Participating artists in the workshop, which is open to the public, are: Vasos Demetriou, George Georgiades, Semral Oztan and Hasan işık özgöçmen (Cyprus), the sculptor-ceramist Charles Sammut (Malta) and the ceramist Takis Papazafiropoulos (Greece), with each artist carrying the history, the tradition and the art of his country. Their goal is a common quest in ancient, traditional and modern techniques, forms and materials.
The presentation on May 14th will be followed by a lecture by Dr Demetra Papanikola-Bakirzi, at the village school, entitled: “Medieval Glazed Pottery of Pafos”.

THEATRE
Lysistrata

Lysistrata is a unique project for Pafos2017, featuring 16 stunning female performers from 4 different countries and 3 different continents. The all female cast re-invents the idea and form of Classical Greek comedy. The text discovers a specific relevance to our world today from a female perspective. At the same time it is not a feminist manifesto, but a celebration of joy and diversity, driven by dance, music and the spoken word. English is the common language, but it is the extraordinary vitality and beauty of the performers that is the true language of communication. São Paolo (Brazil), Lagos (Nigeria), Cyprus North and South, Essen (Germany) are where our performers come from, and their cultural backgrounds are the colours of this world. Aristophanes was driven by the necessity to save his threatened world from destruction, this necessity is still alive today, and perhaps it is the healing power of a female energy that holds the key.
