Second Nature – Shaping the city
The project Second Nature aims at the renegotiation of the relationship of the Public Garden with the urban landscape of Pafos, through the study and design of structures. The structures will combine the natural landscape with aesthetic standards and will be delivered as installations that will remain in the town.
The structures will be constructed on site from the 10th of February 2017 and their presentation to the public will take place on the 19th of February 2017 in an event that will include the participation of the Schools in Action programme.
At the same time, the installations – benches, built by the artist Michalis Papamichael under the Rebench programme, will be set up in the Public Garden.

‘’GARDEN BUBBLES’’
Team: Robert B Trempe Jr (Αρχιτέκτονας)
Country: Denmark

One of the many qualities found in public gardens is the capability to instigate group ‘territories’ within an open landscape. Successful gardens choreograph the gathering of people: To be close to one another, to converse in a small group, to celebrate with friends, and to observe the greater fabric. ‘Garden Bubbles’ seeks to visualize these conditions through the construction of a rebar framework from which ivy is trained – manifesting a virtual quality through a physical construction. ‘Garden Bubbles’ is a palimpsest of garden culture that instigates interaction through its relic-like and curious physical nature.
‘’PolyCatOikia’’
Team: Emilios Koutsoftides ( Architect) , Gabor Stark (Artist)
Country: Cyprus

The installation presents a man-made habitat for the four-legged residents of the Municipal Garden in Pafos: the stray cats of Ktima. The project interprets the culture-nature relationship addressed in the Second Nature brief by focusing on the human-feline cohabitation in Cyprus – an interspecies bond, which can be traced back as far as the 10th millennium B.C. The PolyCatOikia operates like a hotel resort – only for cats. It features fourteen semi-enclosed private suites, so-called Cat Flats.
‘’BLOOM ’’
Team: Charis Solomou, Odysseas Georgiou, Kiriakos Kiriakides (Architects), Michalis Georgiou (Artist)
Country: Cyprus

The plant “Bougainvillea spectabili’ and the process of its reproduction became the inspiration behind the installation “Bloom”. The plants development and the transformation of this living organism has led to the creation of a new natural and organic form which consists of areas field, routes, stops and natural shading.
