The European Capital of Culture presents Mísia, the soul of fado
August 19th, Pafos Ancient Odeon, 8.30pm
After Luz Casal’s concert through the sensual rhythms of tango and flamenco, the Travelling Stage presents Mísia, the soul of fado, from Portugal. From her the beginning of her career, Mísia was considered to be a pioneer, a free spirit and possibly the most famous fado voice, after Amália Rodrigues. For many years now, she has been building an international career, presenting in some of the most prestigious stages, such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Festival d’Avignon, the National Theatre of São Carlos in Lisbon and others. She is known for her songs that express timeless and universal feelings, sung not only in her mother tongue, but also in many other languages. Over time, she managed to create her own sound, inspired by her childhood spent on the streets of Oporto.
World-renowned Portuguese writers such as José Saramago, José Luis Peixoto, Lídia Jorge and many more, wrote works especially for her. The French film director Patrice Leconte directed her video Duas Luas (2001), John Turturro chose her for his film “Passione” (2010), while she was invited by William Christie at the Cité de la Musique in Paris (2004). Mísia received the “Vermeil Medal”, the highest honour of the city of Paris, by which she represents the “Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters” of the French Republic.
The concert is under “The Travelling Stage” programme, powered by CYTAMOBILE VODAFONE.
The programme was launched in 2014. From February 2017 to date, it has hosted 14 concerts in Pafos city and region.
