SEA CAVES, PEGEIA
UNITING THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA
At the sea caves, in front of the EDRO III shipwreck, the well-known actor Marios Ioannou creates, together with a big team from Cyprus and overseas, an exciting theatrical world that connects the Mediterranean and its people. Actors from Alexandria, Barcelona, Marseille, Pafos, Smyrna and Tangier, will face each other in a scene in the bay of Peyia, and together they will explore the meanings of a common sea and a common country. The script was written by Marios Ioannou in collaboration with the participating artists.

Claude and Marie are a French Catholic bourgeois couple. They are embittered by their three daughters, as one is married to a Jew, the second to a Muslim, and the third one to a Chinese man. Their agony culminates when their fourth daughter announces that she is getting married, yet they are temporarily encouraged when they learn that her fiancé is a French Catholic. Their dreams will be fall to pieces when the young man is revealed to be an African Frenchman, of traditional parents, strict in their own culture.

EUROPEAN EYES ON JAPAN – JAPAN TODAY
Starting from 1999, the programme has been inviting photographers from two European Capitals of Culture to Japan, in order to document images of people’s way of living in different areas of the country. Thus, particular aspects of everyday life in Japan are recorded by each photographer, in works that are drastically differentiated from stereotypes or the usual images of the media.
At the end of each project, all photographs are exhibited in museums in Japan. For 2017, and in the framework of the European Capital of Culture – Pafos2017, the participating photographers are Ergenc Mehmet Korkmazel and Constantinos Taliotis, while the exhibition is curated by Mikiko Kikuta.

Misia is today perhaps the most famous voice of fado after Amalia Rodrigues. Utilizing the traditional form of Portuguese music, she creates and constantly renews fado with new material, bringing fado, in this way, closer to the new members of the audience. She often performs in Europe and Asia and her recordings are sold in hundreds of thousands of copies all over the world. Through her songs in her latest album, “Para Amalia”, she honours the ‘immortal priestess’ of fado, the unique Amalia Rodrigues.
