With the participation of artists, scientists, psychologists, philosophers and other intellectuals and thinkers, this programme renegotiates the issue of happiness / euphoria with an interdisciplinary and intercultural approach, keeping in mind the modern reality and its particular conditions. This is a common research project, dealing with the issues of ‘I’, ‘We’ and ‘Nature’, through events such as an installation in the Chloraka Park (13/6), an art exhibition (13-25/6), workshops at the Old Powerhouse (13/6), presentations at the ArTos Foundation (16/6) and an interactive performance at the Aphrodite Hills Resort (14/6) at 19:00.Participating artists: Elli Papaconstantinou from Greece, Ohya Rica and Maki Macchiato from Japan and Maria Papacharalambous and Achilleas Kentonis from Cyprus. APHRODITE’S GARDENS

Narrative, movement and thematic images enrich the music of Akamas Duo and invite the audience to an audiovisual tour of ‘Aphrodite Gardens’, reviving the stories, images and scents of the goddess’s birthplace, in the imagination of the audience. Traditional songs alternate with music that highlight mythology and, along with the melodies of Astor Piazzola and Jules Massenet, they create a magnificent spectacle. Nikolas Kyriakou and Iasonas Keramides are responsible for the music, enorchestrations and singing. Directed by Minas Tingilis, scenography and visual editing by Giorgos Papadopoulos and costumes by Rena Perdiki. Narration and movement by Stephanie Mavrokordatou, with the participation of Bianca Tofarides, Panareti Neophytou, Elena Herodotou, Kristia Iereidi, Michalis Pericleous and Nadia Georgiadou.

Philharmonic-Encounters

This programme includes films from European cinema, bringing to light creators and works that have been distinguished in international festivals, so as to get the audience closer to independent cinema but also for the return to this art form through summer cinema in open spaces in the town.
The programme is implemented with the help of Embassies and Foreign Delegations in Cyprus and is launched with two films-tributes to the Austrian actor, scriptwriter and director Karl Markovics, who will be present at both screenings and converse with the public.

The 19year old Roman Kogler has the opportunity to be prematurely released from a young juveniles’ facility. Chances, however, are not in his favour. A lonely and reserved character, without a family, it will be hard for him to be reintegrated back into society. As a prisoner he works in a funeral office, and it is this contact with death that will be catalytic in finding his way back to life. Karl Markovics (scriptwriter and director) was awarded for his debut at the famous Directors’ Fortnight at the 64th Cannes Festival 2011.
Starring: Thomas Schubert, Georg Friedrich, Gerhard Liebmann, Karin Lischka.
The film received 26 international awards and the Austrian Film Award 2012 in six categories.

Gabi is a cashier at a local supermarket in a small town in Austria. A simple middle aged woman, married with two adult children. Her life rolls into routine and her husband does not seem to be very interested in her anymore, until one day she starts to feel that she is persecuted by voices that she alone hears. While the voices become more and more intense, she struggles to cope with her everyday work. She begins to neglect her obligations, preferring to take long walks. Everyone around her is worried but no one can help her in this path of consciousness and self-awareness.

ARCHAOMUSICA – CONCERT

In the context of the exhibition-journey into the world of ancient musical instruments, that includes multimedia and interactive installations using 3D technology, concerts of traditional Cypriot and of Asia Minor music are organised, as well as dances from the Ayioi Omoloyites Cultural Workshop (18:00-19:15). Also, Ethnic Jazz and Progressive Rock music by the Italian group Dissoi Logoi (19:30-21:00).
Organised by the European Music Archaeological Project (EMAP), with the cooperation of the Antiquities Department.
