2012: The London Olympics are about to begin… what better timing to be reminded of the Olympic spirit and the ideal of Fair Play in all aspects of life, every chance we get to compete fairly and glorify the human spirit?
The American Academy of Limassol and Paphos remains true to its call and philosophy in educating by “Passing on the Knowledge” conducted a competition between high school students in the city of Lugansk in Ukraine, under the title: “Cyprus as a Crossroad throughout the Ages”.
The feedback was beyond the most optimistic expectation. More than 150 participating projects flooded the American Academy head courters in Limassol; poems, essays, paintings, 3D models, PP multimedia presentations and videos by teenagers living thousands of miles away who have never visited Cyprus in their lives. Yet, what they portray in their projects is heaven on earth: Aphrodite’s birthplace, Cyprus.
On Saturday, 9 June 2012 we award the best of the best by granting them a piece of this dream; 6 of those 155 will make their way to our International Summer School next July for a 2 week scholarship compliments of the American Academy Limassol/Paphos, just because they gave their best in portraying Cyprus accurately while at the same time thinking out of the box!
Do come and join us in our celebrations under the title: “Passing on the Knowledge” as we rejoice in the achievements of all these teenagers for our homeland, the birthplace of the Goddess of Beauty, Love and Prosperity of the land at her Sacred Gardens at the American Academy Paphos.
With Cyprus in both their and our hearts,
We paraphrase a quote of Nobel winning Greek Poet,
Odysseus Elytis for our official poster:
“If you reduce our homeland into its core elements,
in the end you’ll be left with an olive-tree, a grapevine and a sailboat;
And that is all you would need to make it whole again!”
