Today’s (September 20, 2017) press conference on the Sculpture Park “Myths and Sculptures” – a project realised within the framework of the European Capital of Culture Pafos2017 – was successfully held at the headquarters of the Organisation. The conference was attended by the Organisation’s Artistic Programme Director, Mrs Georgia Doetzer, the Deputy Mayor of Geroskipou, Mr Kyriakos Hatzivasilis, the curator of the project, Katerina Fukara, all the participating sculptors and volunteers from Japan.

Speaking on behalf of the Pafos2017 Organisation, Mrs Doetzer expressed the Organisation’s satisfaction with this project, since the creation of the Sculpture Park translates to the acquisition of a public “sculpture case”, through a visual intervention in the urban landscape. In addition to this, she underlined the contribution and support of the Municipality of Geroskipou in the overall preparation of the project and warmly thanked the jury responsible for selecting the artworks as well as the curator and inspirer of the project, Katerina Foukara. To conclude, she also thanked the volunteers for coming all the way from Japan to Pafos within the framework of the Pafos2017 collaboration with the EU Japan Fest – Japan Committee and who voluntarily work with the artists of the Sculpture Park.

The Deputy Mayor of Geroskipou, Mr Hatzivasilis, gave a short speech on behalf of the Mayor of Geroskipou, Mr Michalis Pavlides, referring to the Sculpture Park as an excellent centre of culture for the Municipality and as a new benchmark and gem for the city. Furthermore, he thanked the Board of Directors of Pafos2017 for choosing the Municipality of Geroskipou to realise the “Myths and Sculptures” project.

Then, the curator and coordinator of the project, Katerina Foukara, made a brief reference to the open invitation for artists held in 2014 and for which the response was so great that it resulted in 207 submissions from a total of 29 countries! She stated that this project is a public treasure for our country and concluded saying that alongside the realisation of the International Symposium, the slogan “linking continents – bridging cultures” of Pafos2017 is being widely promoted.

The inauguration of the Sculpture Park “Myths and Sculptures” will take place on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at 19:00 and will be held by the Minister of Education and Culture, Mr Costas Kadis.
