San Sebastian passes on the baton of European Capital of Culture to Pafos

Today, San Sebastian passed on the baton of European Capital of Culture to Pafos, in a special ceremony held in the presence of Dr. Christos Patsalides, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Pafos2017 Organisation. San Sebastian is the capital of the Gipuzkoa province in the autonomous community of the Basque Country in Spain and served as the European Capital of Culture for 2016.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Pafos2017 Organisation said that this day is a milestone in the history of Pafos. He stated, “Pafos received the title of the European Capital of Culture for 2017, in a simple ceremony organised in San Sebastian, the European Capital of Culture for 2016. The challenge is great for all of us. I am really very proud of our Organisation, our Pafos, our Cyprus. Our efforts will succeed.”

In the new year coming in a few days, Pafos will be officially crowned with the title of the new European Capital of Culture thus flirting with one of the greatest moments in its modern history.

The official opening ceremony for the European Capital of Culture Pafos2017 programme is known to take place on the 28th of January 2017, on the remodelled square in front of the town’s Municipal Palace.
