Lysistrata – One of the most famous comedies by Aristophanes in the European Capital of Culture – Pafos2017

Lysistrata is a unique project for Pafos2017 which will be held tonight Friday, 12/05/2017 and tomorrow Saturday 13/05/2017 at 20:30, at the House of Aron in Kato Pafos.
The performance features 16 stunning female performers from 4 different countries and 3 different continents. The female cast re-invents the idea and form of Classical Greek comedy. The text discovers a specific relevance to our world today from a female perspective. At the same time it is not a feminist manifesto, but a celebration of joy and diversity, driven by dance, music and the spoken word. English is the common language, but it is the extraordinary vitality and beauty of the performers that is the true language of communication. São Paolo (Brazil), Lagos (Nigeria), Cyprus, Essen (Germany) are where our performers come from, and their cultural backgrounds are the colours of this world. Aristophanes was driven by the necessity to save his threatened world from destruction, this necessity is still alive today, and perhaps it is the healing power of a female energy that holds the key.
