COMING TOGETHER IN MOUTTALOS
ΠΕΡΙΔΙΑΒΑΖΟΝΤΑΣ ΣΤΟΝ ΜΟΥΤΤΑΛΟ MAZI

A project by the European Capital of Culture Pafos

20 – 24 of September 2017
The project proposes a series of cultural paths through the neighborhood of Moutallos which will activate some existing abandoned buildings in Mouttallos and use particular streets and open spaces for temporary activities and site installations. The proposal builds on fieldwork research on the settlement of Mouttallos, carried out by architecture students and academics of the University of Nicosia during 2014-2015. Narrative ‘stops’ and ‘paths’ weaving through the neighborhood will highlight Mouttallos as a link to the wider socio-cultural experience of ‘Pafos 2017’. Pop up events and temporal interventions along the path are planned, aiming to uncover the identity of Mouttallos. The proposed events intend to bring together local residents and visitors, provoke dialogue, create alternative interpretations, and memories of the site through revealing the characteristic spaces of the neighborhood.

  • Photographic exhibition: Photographs old and new, showing past and current activities, streets and buildings.

‘CHROMOTOPIA’ Mouttallos – Light Installation
Sponsored by: Austrian Embassy, Nicosia

The Viennese artist Victoria Coeln creates multi-faceted light interventions in the public space. Her work is site specific, never shying away from relevant social, political and ecological dimensions, and inspires the observer to critically question his or her own positions.Diachromes are miniature works of art, produced on site using multi-layered light filters. The projectors cast their light, filtered through the diachrome, in the places, spaces and sites and with the superimposition of light and matter, they create a ‘Chromotopia’. Chromotopia could also be the name of a worldscape which Victoria Coeln bathes in her light from region to region, in order to make visible all of the realities contained in them, superimpose them, crossing in them.
